Using Translation

The County of San Mateo has added a translation feature developed by Google Translate to assist web visitors in understanding information on this website in a variety of foreign languages. Please be aware that Google Translate, a free third party service which the County does not control, provides automated computer translations that may not give you an exact translation. The County cannot guarantee the accuracy of translations through Google Translate so translations should not be considered exact and only used as a rough guide. Anyone relying on information obtained from Google Translate does so at his or her own risk. The County disclaims and will not accept any liability for damages or losses of any kind caused by the use of the Google Translate feature.

Service Alert

Commercial, Multi-Family and Industrial Customers: 
Beginning April 13, 2026, all commercial, multi-family and industrial customers receiving garbage service from Republic Services in the unincorporated, non-exclusive franchise area (NEFA) south of Half Moon Bay, who were impacted by the July 2025 Republic work stoppage (July 8 – July 18), may contact Republic Services to request a service credit. Please note that service credit requests must be made between April 13 and May 13, 2026. Customers must call 650.756.1130 to request the credit.  

Please be prepared to provide your name, account number, and the days on which services were missed during your normal collection schedule. A customer service agent will assist with calculating and processing a service credit for each verified missed collection during the work stoppage period. 

If you are a commercial customer with additional questions related to the service credit, please contact Republic Services at 650.756.1130. 
 
Residential Customers: 
Beginning April 11, 2026, all residential customers receiving garbage service from Republic Services in the unincorporated, non-exclusive franchise area (NEFA) south of Half Moon Bay, who were impacted by the July 2025 Republic work stoppage (July 8 – July 18), will receive a service credit that will be applied to your account. We thank customers for their continued patience. If you are a residential customer with additional questions related to the service credit, please contact Republic Services at 650.756.1130. 

Unincorporated County Areas

The Sustainability Department works to ensure compliant waste collection services in the unincorporated county areas. This includes overseeing waste hauling contracts with the multiple waste haulers that serve the unincorporated areas. To learn more about the different unincorporated areas of the county and the policies in place, see below.

Unincorporated County Areas Regular Service

North Fair Oaks (CSA-8)

North Fair Oaks/CSA-8 is governed by the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, and County staff administer their contracts for curbside garbage and recycling collection services through a franchise agreement with Recology San Mateo County. The SBWMA and the member agencies also administer a Franchise Agreement for the operator of the Shoreway Environmental Center (owned by the member agencies of the SBWMA).

County Franchised Areas

County Franchised Areas (CFA) are governed by the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, and County staff administer their contracts for curbside garbage and recycling collection services through a franchise agreement with Recology San Mateo County. The SBWMA and the member agencies also administer a Franchise Agreement for the operator of the Shoreway Environmental Center (owned by the member agencies of the SBWMA).

Other Unincorporated Areas

Some parts of the unincorporated County areas are not under a franchise agreement with a particular hauler, or they may be part of an agreement with a nearby city. These areas include Broadmoor, unincorporated Colma, El Granada, Ladera, Loma Mar, Los Trancos Woods/Vista Verde, Menlo Oaks, Miramar, Montara/Moss Beach, Pescadero, Princeton-by-the-Sea, Rural South Coast/Skyline, San Gregorio, Skylonda, and Stanford Lands.

Pescadero Transfer Station

The location of the Pescadero TS/MRF is 921 Bean Hollow Road in Pescadero, CA 94060. The County of San Mateo owns the site. This Transfer Station serves the South Coast community.

Hours of Operation
Friday: 10:00am – 12:00pm, 12:30pm – 5:30pm
Saturday: 9:00am – 12:00pm, 12:30pm – 4:30pm
Sunday: 9:00am – 12:00 pm, 12:30 pm – 4:30 pm

Notice: Starting January 1, 2026, the hours of operation will be updated to:

  • Thursday: 10:00am – 12:00pm, 12:30pm – 5:30pm
  • Friday: 10:00am – 12:00pm, 12:30pm – 5:30pm
  • Saturday: 9:00am – 12:00pm, 12:30pm – 4:30pm
